二、部分倒装

1．含有否定意义的副词（如never, seldom, little, nowhere, hardly, rarely, scarcely等）放在句首时。
Never in history has technology made such rapid progress.历史上科技从未有过如此快速的发展。
Seldom in my life have I met so determined a person.一生中我很少见到如此果断的人。
Little does he realize how important this meeting is.他没有意识到这次会议是多么的重要。
Nowhere else in the world can you find such a quiet and beautiful place.你不可能在世界上其他任何地方找到如此宁静美丽的地方了。
Hardly does it snow here in winter.在冬天，这里很难得见下场雪。

2．“not a + n.”, “not a single + n.”, “not until…”或“not once”等短语放在句首时。
Not a word did say at the last meeting.上次会上他一句话也没说。
Not a single mistake did he make.他一个错误都没犯。
Not once has she failed to keep her promise.她没有一次不遵守她的诺言。
Not until I read your letter did I understand the true state of affairs.直到看过你的来信后，我才了解了事实的真相。

3．表示否定意义的介词短语（如at no time, on no account, under no circumstances, by no means, in no way等）放在句首时。
At no time should you step into the room.你绝不能踏进这个房间一步。
On no account must this switch be touched.这个开关绝对不能碰。
Under no circumstances could I agree to such a principle.在任何情况下，我都不能同意这一原则。

4．在用hardly… when和no sooner… than…表“一……就……”，如果把hardly, no sooner放在句首，主句倒装；not only… but also…引导两个分句时，not only放在句首，前一个分句的主谓要用部分倒装，后一个分句则不用倒装。
Hardly had he begun to speak when his father stopped.他刚开口发言就被父亲制止了。
No sooner had I left my house than it began to rain.我刚刚离开家就下雨了。
Not only will help be given to people to find jobs, but also medical treatment will be provided for
people who need it.不仅要给找工作的人们提供帮助，也要给需要医疗的人们提供治疗。
但neither/not… nor引导两个分句时，这两个分句都要使用倒装结构。
Neither do I know her address, nor does she.我不知道他的地址，我也不知道。
Not could the patient eat, nor could he drink.那个病人既不能吃，也不能喝。

5．在“so + adj./adv. + that…”句式中，如将“so + adj./adv.”放在句首时。
So moved was she that she could not say a word.她激动得一句话也说不出来。
So loudly did he speak that even the people in the next room could hear him.他的声音那么大，连
隔壁屋子里的人都听得见。
So fast does light travel that it is difficult for us to imagine its speed.光速如此之快，我们很难想象。

6．当if引导的虚拟条件从句中含有助动词had, were或should时，如将if省略，则要将had,
were或should等移到主语前。
Had you come yesterday, you would have seen him.如果你昨天来了，你就会见到他了。
Had it not been for your help, I would not have succeeded.要不是你的支持，我是不会成功的。
Were I Tom, I would refuse.我要是汤姆，就会拒绝。
Should it rain tomorrow, we would put off the sports meet.明天一旦下雨，运动会就会推迟。

7．“Only+副词、介词短语或从句”放在句首。
Only then did we realize that the man was blind. 直到那时我们才发现他是一个盲人。
Only when the performance was over did he find the man behind was his teacher. 直到演出结束后他才发现坐在后面的是他的老师。
注：only修饰主语时，句子不可倒装。如：
Only he can answer the question. 只有他能回答这个问题。
