1. by far意为“……得多”“最……”“显然” “非常” 等，用来修饰形容词或副词的比较级和最高级，强调数量、程度等，通常置于其后，但是若比较级或最高级前有冠词，则可置于其前或其后。如：
     It’s quicker by far to go by train.
     乘火车要快得多。
     She ran fastest by far.
     她跑得最快(显然她跑得最快)。
     He is taller by far than his brother.
     他比他的兄弟高得多。
     He is by far the taller of the two brothers.
     她是两兄弟中最高的。
     He is by far the best teacher. = He is the best teacher by far.
     他是最好的老师(或他显然是最好的老师)。

2. far作程度副词时，与by far近义。far常用在形容词比较级之前，例：
     It is far colder today than yesterday．
     今天的天气比昨天冷得多。
     She is far better than the other students．
     她比其他学生更优秀。
