1. Eric runs in after it, followed by a big dog, walking very slowly.
爱立克之后慢悠悠的进来了，身后跟着一条沟。
此句中followed by a big dog 做伴随状语，修饰谓语。另外，walking very slowly做定语，修饰 a big dog。例如：
Followed by some students, the professor came into the classroom with a book in his hand.
后面跟了一群学生，教授手里拿了一本书走进了教师。
2. Now that he has been so rude to us, I feel like we have to punish him or he won’t respect us.
既然他对我们如此粗鲁，我想我们得惩罚他一下，否则他不会尊重我们。
此句中Now that......，做原因状语从句。例如：
Now that you have got a good chance , you may as well make full use of it.
既然你得到一个好机会，你不妨充分地利用它。
3. Now I can ride my bike at the weekends instead of waiting so long for the bus.
现在我可以骑自行车去上班用不着等好长时间车了。
instead of 代替，通常连接两个同等结构。如：
We will have tea in the garden instead of in the room.
我们将在花园里喝茶而不在房间里。
Now students usually go to school by bike instead of on foot.
现在学生通常骑自行车去上学而不用步行了。
4. We thought you were an adult, a person from whom we could expect good decisions.
我原以为你是个大人，是个我们可以期待作出好的决定的人。
We thought......表示 “过去总以为......但事实并非如此”。例如：
--- Is this your wallet? 这是你的钱包吗？
--- Yes. I didn’t know I lost it. Thank you.是的。我不知道我丢了，谢谢。
--- Mr. Wang has come.王先生已经到了。
--- Oh, I thought he was coming the next day.噢，我以为他第二天才会来呢。
