1. attempt 和 try

     attempt和try都有“试图”、“设法”的意思，attempt较try正式，强调开始做某事时的企图，而不在乎为完成此事所做的努力，有时还隐含着这种“企图、尝试”未必能达到目的。try属普通用语，较口语化。用作不及物动词时，意指花费脑力或体力去做某事而又有成功的可能；用作及物动词时，表示试用、试做某事，以观察效果好不好。

They attempted to master the technique in three days.
他们企图在三天内掌握这种技术。
I was attempted to speak but was told to be quiet.
我试图讲话却被告之保持安静。
My friend asked me to try to be there earlier.
我的朋友要求我尽量早点到那儿。
I will try to finish the job as soon as possible.
我将尽量尽早完成这份工作。
Mother tried cleaning the dirty clothes with alcohol.
母亲试着用酒精洗脏衣服。

2. meet, match 和 fit

     meet表示“遇见；迎接；满足，符合”的意义；match表示“和…相配”，一般指两样东西互相匹配或两个人的能力势均力敌、互为对手；fit表示“使配合；使相配”，一般指衣服、鞋帽等合体、合身，强调大小、尺寸合适。

They opened a new factory to meet the demand of producing Christmas presents.
他们办了新工厂以满足生产圣诞礼物的需要。
We finally found the carpet that matched the curtain very well.
最终，我们找到了跟窗帘很相配的地毯。
I don’t think this skirt fits me; it’s rather too small.
我认为这条裙子不合我的身，太小了。
