Are your grades a little low? Does schoolwork seem too hard? Experts at a children’s health journal(期刊) think they’ve got the answer for many schoolchildren. They recently reported on a new study that middle school students who watch television during the week do worse in school.
“On weekdays, the more the students watched, the worse they did,” said Dr Iman Sharif, one of the authors of the study that appeared in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He also pointed out that watching television on weekends didn’t appear to harm students’ grades.
Dr Sharif and the other authors studied about 4,500 students of 15 middle schools in Vermont and New Hampshire.
cial influence of Super Girls?” a reporter said.
The study focused on more than just television. Video games can also be a distraction(分心的事物) from homework during the week. The less homework a student does, the more his or her grades can suffer. In fact, homework is not the only thing that a student stops doing because they’re watching television or playing video games. “Not only does TV take time away from homework, but it takes time away from doing sports and learning how to be active to help keep good health,” Dr Sharif said.
It might sound unpleasant to just turn off the television and focus on other activities like schoolwork during the week. However, in the end, it might help students do better at school and be more productive in other areas of life.
